Susan Gange

Susan Gange founded Stony Brook Orchids in Pennington, New Jersey in 1996 with the idea of establishing a nice small strictly mail-order business.  But shortly after her husband and partner David built their 2,400-square-foot greenhouse and stocked it with thousands of orchids from around the globe, her best-laid plans went joyfully awry.  America’s unexpected orchid boom had folks coming literally to her door, which she now has opened to guests by appointment.  Currently you may find Susan showing off her orchids at competitive shows, orchid society meetings, garden shows, and farm markets.  She also frequently gives instructive lectures at flower and garden societies.

Her advice for those interesting in launching their own orchid or flower business?  “Have a strong back.”
